The kids knew we were going to meet their new cousin Isabella on the way and that we were going to Kelsi's birthday party. But they didn't know we were going to the Dells until we parked the car at the hotel.
We loved stopping at Jacob and Laura's and meeting sweet little Isabella!
Jacob told Tyler and Carsten that we were taking them to the wilderness (which was the water park we went to). So we had a little fun with them in the car talking about what we might find in the wilderness. When we got there we parked out front and Carl went to check in. The whole time he was in there Tyler was trying to figure out where we were. It didn't look like the wilderness. :-) The look on his face was priceless when we drove over to our room and he saw a water slide. And Carsten caught on pretty quickly. They were so excited! We brought everything up to our room and went straight to the water park where we planned to spend every single waking minute we had there.
We had such a blast! We played in the kids areas, and wave pool, went down water slides, floated through the lazy river... everything. Every single second was fun. It was sooo nice to be away from home just having such a fun and undistracted time with our kids.
And then, surprise! In the middle of the night Tyler woke up throwing up. He was so confused about it. He kept saying, "I don't know why that happened." It was weird because it seemed like he didn't really feel sick so he didn't understand what was happening. The next morning we thought we might be going home but he seemed ok. We wondered if he had swallowed a lot of water that caused it. So we decided to try breakfast and he ate a ton! We waited out part of the morning to see how he was doing and wise choice or not, we decided to still try the water parks.We started out really slow, just playing in the shallow water and floating down the river. But he was completely fine so we ended up having another totally great day.
Then that night we left to get dinner and go to bed and Tyler completely lost his energy. They were all worn out, but Tyler became really lethargic and almost unresponsive, just staring. We got back to our room with dinner and ended up calling the on-call nurse to see if we should take him to the emergency room. He had already fallen asleep so she told us to wake him up throughout the night to check on him and bring him in right away in the morning if he still had anything going on.
But he woke up in the morning completely fine again! We called Matt and asked what they thought of us still coming or if we should just go home, but they told us to still come and everyone was feeling fine so we went.
We hung out for awhile near the entrance while Carl was checking out. She was alternating between extra snugly and insisting on trying to crawl away.

We had a great time at the birthday party and were so glad that we went. It was fun to celebrate sweet little Kelsi and to see her and Aria together. But that night, around dinner time again, poor Tyler started to feel terrible. Actually, first Janelle's niece hit her head when she was running and playing and had to go to the emergency room. Right after they left with her Tyler completely fell apart. He was holding his ears and saying they hurt and his eyes started gooping like crazy out of nowhere. So Carl took him to urgent care at the same hospital. Half of Kelsi's guests spent the evening at the hospital! Sienna came back with stitches and Tyler came back diagnosed with pink eye and an ear infection! So we had to cancel the next two days of our plans. We missed visiting our good friends the Haas' and spending a night in a hotel with my parents and more time with Samson and Isabella. :-(

The next few days at or house looked a little like this.
When we got home Tyler was exhausted. Completely worn out. In addition to his pink eye and ear infection he had a nasty cough and was just so tired. He missed school Monday. On Wednesday his teachers told me he had a hard time following directions and was just rolling around a lot and laying on the floor. It was impossible to get out of there because as we walked he just kept laying down in the middle of the floor and not wanting to get up. By that time Carsten and Aria had also gotten nasty coughs and were not feeling great. Carsten had been coughing until he threw up and sounded terrible. He was completely miserable. On Thursday morning I took all three kids to the doctor. And all three were diagnosed with different things. Tyler had a virus that had been going around that included the nasty cough, but also was causing pink eye and extreme fatigue and was making kids throw up just once or twice. Yep. That sounded about right. Aria also had that, as well as an ear infection. And Carsten had Walking Pneumonia. Seriously?! And in case that wasn't enough, that night both Carsten and Aria started getting goopy, pink eyes. So we got two more sets of eye drops prescribed. Carsten's were better in the morning so it was probably just gunk from his cold. But Aria definitely had pink eye. So between the three of them we were giving 10 doses of antibiotics a day, plus over the counter pain relievers and cough medicines. Oh. And Carl had a sinus infection.
That weekend we headed back to Wisconsin to the funeral of a friend. I know it seemed a little crazy, but I really wanted to be there. And no one was contagious anymore!

The kids all did so great in the car and at the funeral, which was quite long. It was both a heartbreaking and an inspiring day. I was thankful that we were able to make it. And we were also to enjoy some time with good friends.
An emotionally draining week was ended with some of the sweetest snuggles ever though!
I will tell you one thing about weeks like that. They make you appreciate having a healthy family so much more! We are so thankful for children that are generally very healthy. We are thankful that we got to have a lot of fun in the Dells even in the midst of some crazy. And we are thankful that everyone eventually got better and no one is currently on any antibiotics anymore!!
