Three years old! Waking up to his streamers and balloons a little taller. :-)
His birthday was on a Tuesday so we celebrated a little early on Saturday. We let him choose how he wanted to spend his day. He chose the farm at the zoo and cake. It was a great choice.
We've been to the zoo many times...
But they still feel like they need pictures on the wolves every single time.
Birthday carousel ride!
She was a much bigger fan of this ride than either of the boys were at this age. In fact Mr. Birthday Boy Carsten used to be terrified of carousels. He would only go on them if we could find a stationary bench to sit on. He enjoys them much more now. :-)
Feeding the goats! Her lack of fear of these animals was a little frightening.
Tyler helped picked out the birthday decorations, complete with a mini pinata. Look at that sweet hit! Carsten knows how to get it done!

We had so much fun celebrating this sweet boy. So much fun that I couldn't not celebrate a little more on his actual birthday a few days later. :-)
On Tuesday after we dropped Tyler off at preschool Carsten chose to spend his birthday morning at the mall. So we stopped at the popcorn spot for a little treat and then headed over to the play area where we had a fun and unplanned play date with Marta and Ida!
His big birthday dream for the day was to be able to ride on the cow.
It was impossible to get them all to look at the camera. Somehow the only one that even has all four in it, doesn't have a single one looking. But I tried.
That night he got to open a couple more gifts.
A sign that I might take a lot of pictures of my kids is that his first instinct after opening this was to hold it up and say, "Cheese! I love this!"
And the day ended with birthday ice cream cones.
Carsten is such a treasure. He is so sweet and so funny. He loves to make people laugh. And he has the very best laugh in the entire world. And I'm not being a biased mom. He really does. He loves his brother and sister so much and would do anything for them. He used to want to do everything Tyler did all the time, which shows just how much he loves him. But he is finally starting to be his own person and make his own decisions now too. And it's so fun to see. He loves horses and wants to ride on one so badly. We tried to find a place to surprise him with horseback riding for his birthday but nowhere around here lets young kids ride! We are determined to find a place this summer though. Somewhere. Just lately he has been begging for a dog, telling us, "But I really want a dog because I love dogs so much." This is funny because he won't actually go anywhere near dogs. He does love them, but he doesn't want to touch them or be closer than two or three feet away from one. He loves to ride bikes and scooters, is excited to start playing T-Ball this summer and takes great care of his stuffed animals - his "babies."
He asked Jesus into his heart a few months ago and loves to learn verses. His favorite one to say is, "Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" He thinks that keeping your hands to yourself is a fruit of the spirit and his favorite song to sing to Aria is Amazing Grace.
I love this boy. He is an answer to prayer and I thank God for him every single day. We love you Carsten Malachi. We are so proud of the little boy you are growing into. Happy Birthday little love!
